A coworker picked up the development of a project for which I wrote demo. Today he asked me for help, because on retina devices slingshot band was too thin and with offset and he couldn't figure why. Offset was fixed by multiplying anchor points coordinates by scale factor, but we couldn't do anything with the width. After a few minutes I tried my demo in retina mode, and it worked fine. We put the texture from demo into the project, and it worked fine.
Turns out hd texture for the rubber band in the project was not a bigger version of this texture, but a picture of a curved rubber band. Which, of course, was then stretched by glDrawArrays and looked like a very very thin band. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
